Haydn’s The Creation – Masterworks Chorale.
April 30, 2011 7:00pm
May 1 2011 3:00pm
Considered by many to be Haydn’s masterpiece, The Creation depicts and celebrates the creation of the world as described in the biblical Book of Genesis and in Paradise Lost. The deeply religious Haydn spent two years composing the work, 1796-1798, and afterward remarked, “I was never so devout as when I was at work on The Creation; I fell on my knees each day and begged God to give me the strength to finish the work.” We give praise that he did.
